State Fire Marshal Charles M. Duffy said on Tuesday that there were 155 suspected fireworks-related fires in 2014 in Washington so it’s important to use fireworks carefully.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
These fires accounted for an estimated loss of over $320,000. When using fireworks, always remember to use the three B\u2019s of fireworks safety, these tips can help prevent fires:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u2022 Be Prepared: Have water nearby and put pets indoors<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u2022 Be Safe: Only adults should light fireworks<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u2022 Be Responsible: Clean up fireworks debris<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Fireworks Safety Tips:<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Never use fireworks inside your home. Always set them off outdoors on a driveway or sidewalk.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Never consume alcohol or drugs and use fireworks at the same time!<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Obey local laws. If fireworks are not legal where you live, do not use them.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Always have water nearby. (A hose or bucket).<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Be aware of other people around you and make sure they are out of range of the firework you are using.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Never point or shoot fireworks at another person.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Use common sense. Spectators should keep a safe distance from the shooter and the shooter should wear safety glasses.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Do not try to re-ignite a \u201cdud\u201d as it could explode near your hands or face.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Only light one at a time.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Do not try to make your own fireworks.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Completely soak used fireworks overnight. Place soaked fireworks in a trash bag and place in an outdoor trash can or take them to your local waste facility.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Residents should talk with family members and guests about the fireworks laws for their area.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n
