The Seattle Thunderbirds beat the Victoria Royals 3-1 Saturday night at Save-On-Foods Memorial Arena in Victoria, British Columbia.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
This was the second of back-to-back games between the T-Birds and Royals. The Royals beat the T-Birds 2-1 in overtime Friday night. The T-Birds got three out of a possible four points on their trip to Victoria.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Seattle goalie Danny Mumaugh was very solid in net for the T-Birds Saturday night. He kept the Royals at bay and made 24 saves on 25 shots to get his record to 6-4-1-2.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Seattle (12-8-1-2) took a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal by Justin Hickman at 4:34 of the first period. Shea Theodore crossed the puck to Adam Henry at the right point. Henry took a slap shot with traffic in front of Victoria goalie Coleman Vollrath. Hickman got the rebound of Henry’s shot and pounded it past Vollrath for the opening goal.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The T-Birds outshot the Royals 11-9 in the first period.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Victoria (13-10-0-1) tied the game 1-1 at 5:35 on a bad bounce for the T-Birds. Isaac Schacher dumped the puck into the Seattle zone. Seattle goalie Danny Mumaugh went around the net to his right to play the puck. The puck deflected off the end glass and ricocheted out the in front of the Seattle goal. Austin Carroll was there to put the puck into an empty net.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The T-Birds took the lead right back at 10:22 of the second. Brandon Troock intercepted an up ice pass in the right circle of the Victoria zone. Troock backhanded the puck to Jaimen Yakubowski in the slot. Yakubowski beat Vollrath low on the blocker side for the go-ahead goal. The goal was Yakubowski’s first since joining the T-Birds.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The Royals outshot the T-Birds 8-7 in the second period but the T-Birds held an 18-17 advantage in total shots.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Roberts Lipsbergs sealed the win for the T-Birds with an empty-net goal at 18:59 of the third period. Sam McKechnie got the puck to Lipsbergs who skated to the red line along the left boards. Lipsbergs shot the puck just as he got over the red line.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The T-Birds outshot the Royals 9-8 in the third period and 27-25 in the game.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Vollrath made 24 saves on 26 saves and his record is now 5-2-0-1.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The T-Birds return home to the ShoWare Center on Tuesday to face the Kelowna Rockets at 7:05 p.m.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
