The Brandon Wheat Kings defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-2 Nov. 6 at Westman Place in Brandon, Manitoba.

This was the first game of a six-game road trip for the T-Birds. They faced the Moose Jaw Warriors Nov. 7, losing to them in a shootout.

Seattle right wing Jacob Doty put the T-Birds in front 1-0 at 12:09 of the first period. Scott Ramsay put a slap shot on goal from the left point. Brandon goalie Liam Liston blocked the shot but the puck rebounded up and away from the goalie. Doty was crashing the net on Ramsay’s shot and from just above the crease knocked the puck out of the air and past Liston. It was Doty’s first career WHL goal.

Michael Ferland tied the game 1-1 for the Wheat Kings at 19:16 of the first. Scott Glennie had the only assist on the goal.

Brandon outshot Seattle 21-10 in the first period.

Brandon (8-10-0-1) took a 2-1 lead at 10:41 of the first period on a goal by Brenden Walker. Ferland and Glennie had the assists on the goal.

The T-Birds outshot the Wheat Kings 12-5 in the second period but Brandon led in shots, 26-22, after 40 minutes.

The Wheat Kings went in front 3-1 at 2:39 of the third period on a goal by Mark Stone. Shayne Wiebe and Paul Ciarelli were credited with the assists.

Seattle (6-4-2-2) cut the Brandon lead to one when Luke Lockhart scored a power-play goal at 3:23 of the third. Colin Jacobs had the puck at the right point. He sent the puck low and it deflected off a Brandon defender’s skate to Burke Gallimore in the right circle. Gallimore quickly backhanded the puck to Lockhart at the left post. Lockhart put the puck over a diving Liston for his fifth goal of the year.

Seattle got a late power play and pulled goalie Calvin Pickard for a six-on-four advantage. They were unable to get the tying goal.

Brandon outshot Seattle 40-27 in the game.

Pickard made 37 saves on 40 shots and his record is now 6-4-2-2.

Liston stopped 25 of 27 shots and his record is now 6-4-0-1.
