Kent Police shot and injured a 24-year-old Bonney Lake man at about 3 p.m. Friday after the man reportedly tried to drive his vehicle past officers to avoid being stopped for a traffic offense.<\/p>\n
Several officers tried to stop the man during the incident near South 252nd Street and Canyon Drive, also known as Smith Street, partway up the East Hill.<\/p>\n
Paramedics transported the man under police guard to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he was treated for a single gunshot wound, according to a Kent Police media release. The wound was non-life-threatening, police said.<\/p>\n
One officer sustained a minor injury and was treated at the scene.<\/p>\n
Police used their vehicles to pin the vehicle of the Bonney Lake man. The man then allegedly attempted to drive through the blockade. Two officers fired their guns. The man drove a short distance before officers took him into custody.<\/p>\n
Kent Police had tried to stop the same man for a traffic offense on Aug. 1, but the man sped away and officers decided not to pursue the chase because of potential danger to others on the road. Police learned the man\u2019s identify after that incident and discovered he was wanted for an unrelated warrant.<\/p>\n
On Friday, police closed Canyon Drive for several hours after the incident.<\/p>\n
