Fireworks sales in Kent and across the state begin at noon Thursday, June 28 and run through 9 p.m. July 5.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The state issued 900 retail fireworks stand licenses, according to a State Fire Marshal office media release.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
State Fire Marshal Charles M. Duffy said it’s a good time to remind everyone about personal responsibility with fireworks. He offered these discussion points between parents and their children:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u2022 Check with your local fire or police department.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u2022 Be sure the fireworks you purchase are legal to possess and discharge.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u2022 Know the dates and times fireworks are allowed in your community.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u2022 Only purchase legal consumer fireworks.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Fireworks go on sale June 28 in Kent but the city only allows them to be discharged between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. July 4.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Children should not be able to readily access fireworks in the home:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u2022 Store fireworks in a secure location to prohibit access.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u2022 Purchase the day intended to use the fireworks.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Use care in selecting the area where you will be discharging fireworks:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u2022 Follow the directions and warning on the firework.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u2022 No fireworks without adult supervision.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u2022 Summer weather conditions make grass and other vegetation dry and vulnerable to fire.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u2022 Do not allow young children (age 5 and younger) to play with fireworks under any circumstances \u2013 even sparklers.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Don\u2019t take any chances Duffy cautions, \u201cStay away from high powered illegal explosive devices such as M80\u2019s or homemade device, while the Fourth of July happens only once a year, these devices can cause a life altering injury that can last you a lifetime.\u201d<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
