Teachers in the Kent School District decided Tuesday not to participate in a one-day walkout over lack of funding for education and class size like many of their counterparts across the state have.

Instead, the Kent Education Association members voted to take part in “family friendly activities that won’t impact families and kids nor extend our school year,” according to a post on the associations’s Facebook page. As of Wednesday, no plans for the activities had been finalized.

Previously, the association’s executive board unanimously passed a resolution endorsing the walkout, and called for members to vote on the issue at Tuesday’s meeting.

More than 60 education associations throughout the state have participated in or are planning one-day walkouts. Teachers in Auburn and Renton voted not to walk out, but instead had rallies after school on Thursday to bring attention to their concerns.
