The Kent School District announced this week that three elementary schools – Glenridge, Jenkins Creek and Martin Sortun – were named Reward Schools by State Superintendent Randy Dorn.

The designation goes to the top 10 percent of the state’s Title 1 schools in reading and math as calculated over a three-year period.

“The purpose of the identification is to acknowledge the improvement efforts in our Reward Schools and continue to collaborate, support and improve,” Dorn said. “We have an obligation to ensure that each of our 1.1 million students in Washington has an opportunity to attend an excellent school.”

“On behalf of the school board, Kent School District is very proud these three schools received this excellent commendation,” said Kent School District Superintendent Edward Lee Vargas. “It shows the district working in the right direction toward ensuring that each and every one of our students is receiving an outstanding education that successfully prepares them for their future.

“Success doesn’t happen in a vacuum and this success has occurred because of our students’ hard work and the commitment of the professionals in each of these schools and at the district office that support them,” Vargas added.
