Graham Black scored two goals to help lead the Swift Current Broncos to a 4-3 victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds on Friday night at the Credit Union iPlex in Swift Current.

This was the first game of the T-Birds six game road trip through the East Division. The road trip continues Saturday when they face the Moose Jaw Warriors at 6 p.m. at Mosaic Place. They will also play the Brandon Wheat Kings, Regina Pat, Prince Albert Raiders and Saskatoon Blades on the trip.

Seattle (7-7-1-0) took a 1-0 lead at 17:12 of the first period courtesy of a great set up by Riley Sheen. Sheen stole the puck on the forecheck from a Broncos defender behind the Swift Current goal. Sheen, a left hand shot, shielded the puck as he carried it up the right boards toward the blue line. At the top of the right circle, without looking Sheen backhanded the puck across the ice to defenseman Taylor Green coming off the bench and heading into the left circle. Green snapped the puck past Swift Current goalie Eetu Laurikainen for his first goal of the season.

Swift Current outshot Seattle 12-5 in the first period.

Swift Current (7-7-3-2) tied the game 1-1 with a power-play goal by Graham Black at 3:04 of the second period. Richard Nedomlel and Laurikainen had the assists.

The T-Birds took the lead back at 17:09 of the second on Seth Swenson’s fourth goal of the season. Brendan Rouse fought for the puck behind the Broncos goal and got it to Roberts Lipsbergs. Lipsbergs brought puck out from behind the net and centered it to Swenson coming down the slot. Swenson one-timed the pass from Lipsbergs and beat Laurikainen over the right shoulder for the go-ahead goal.

The Broncos outshot the T-Birds 12-6 in the second period and led 24-11 after two periods.

Black scored 17 seconds into the third period to tie the game 2-2 for the Broncos. Adam Lowry and Coda Gorda were credited with the assists.

The Broncos scored two shorthanded goals on the same T-Birds power play to take a 4-2 lead. Lowry scored at 3:48 followed by Chance Lund at 4:25. Brent Benson had an assist on the first shorthanded goal and Lowry had an assist on Lund’s goal.

Riley Sheen cut the Broncos lead to one goal at 9:42 of the third with a wraparound goal. Sheen took control of a loose puck behind the Broncos goal and skated around to the right post and beat Laurikainen for his fourth goal of the year.

Swift Current outshot Seattle 30-17 in the game.

Seattle goalie Brandon Glover stopped 26 of 30 shots and his record is now 6-5-1-0.

Laurikainen made 14 saves on 17 shots and his record is now 7-6-2-2.
