Pearl, a 4-year-old cat, became the 200th feline adopted from the King County Pet Adoption Center this month in Kent.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The center, run by Regional Animal Services of King County, waived adoption fees for cats six months and older as part of a special promotion in October.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen we set the goal of adopting 200 cats and kittens this month, we set our sights high, even though we weren\u2019t at all sure if we\u2019d reach that number,\u201d said Dr. Gene Mueller, manager of Regional Animal Services, in a King County media release. \u201cNot only did we reach our goal, but we did it with two days to spare.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Mueller says the no fee for adult cats promotion was so successful that the deal will extend the deal through Dec. 31. The fee for kittens will remain at $100. All felines adopted from the center are spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and have tested negative for feline leukemia. Adopters also receive a starter bag of Hill\u2019s Science Diet food for their new pet, as well as a certificate for a free veterinary wellness exam, courtesy of the Seattle\/King County Veterinary Medical Association.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u201cAlthough we found great new homes for 200 cats and kittens this month, we still have hundreds more looking for new families,\u201d Mueller said. \u201cWith the holidays coming up soon, we know that there are many other homes out there that need the love and warmth that only a pet can provide. That\u2019s why we\u2019ve extended our special offer.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Susan Conn of Seattle was the lucky adopter who picked out Pearl on Monday. She says she was inspired by the special event that Animal Services held this month, waiving the adoption fee.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile I love the energy of kittens, I have a soft spot for the older cats,\u201d Conn said. \u201cPearl was the first cat that caught my eye. I did look at other animals, but I came back to her, and am glad I did. I think we will get along splendidly.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
