If the Kent City Council asks for a property tax increase to pay for a new police station, it will show how out of touch they are with their residents.

As a registered voter and taxpayer here for 18 years my message is this simple, “Don’t waste our money. We will vote it down.”

When there are no portables at our schools, no vacancies in downtown buildings (lease some space for crying out loud) and with gorgeous fire stations dotting the region, why would we vote to increase the taxes we pay on our homes?

I would like new, too, but I’ve patched the roof again, grow my own food to help offset the cost of living, drive cars 10 years old and vacation in state. We hang on to what we have, get by with less and are happy when the sun shines.

Where is the city of Kent shaving costs and living on less? Our elected officials are programmed to stick their hands out asking for more instead of making some hard decisions on what stays and what leaves when money is tight like we do at home.

Police officers need to be on the street and in our communities. A nice new building will not make life better for us. This is our reality. Is anyone home in the City of Kent?

Just say no.
