A Kent man has a major legal bone to pick with rapper Snoop Dogg.

Richard Monroe, 25, previously a fan of the rapper, has been in a Los Angeles courtroom this past week, pursuing a $22 million lawsuit against the rapper, as well as lineup of other rap performers. The suit stems from a beating Monroe alleges took place May 29 last year in Auburn, when he jumped onstage while Snoop Dogg was performing.

The concert was at the White River Amphitheatre, and the alleged attack took place in front of the audience, as well as portions of it being videotaped.

In addition to Snoop Dogg (whose legal name is Calvin Broadus), the suit also names rappers Soopafly (Priest Joseph Brooks), Kurupt (Ricardo E. Brown), The Game (Jayceon Taylor) and Daz Dillinger (Delmar Drew Arnaud) as parties to the alleged attack.

In his complaint filed at Los Angeles Superior Court, Monroe claimed that he’d received “an open invite” from rap entertainers at the concert to come onto the stage.

As Snoop Dogg was singing “Gin and Juice,” Monroe got on the stage, and attempted to put his arm around the rapper, although he claims he did nothing that was hostile.

That’s when Monroe alleges that bodyguards as well one of the rappers attacked him, punching and kicking him until he was unconscious. Even after he lost consciousness, he claims, the men continued to attack him, then poured cups of liquid onto him, going with the song “Gin and Juice.”

Then he claims he was robbed of rings on his fingers, a pair of diamond earrings, his wallet and his cell phone.

Snoop Dogg, the leading figure of the concert, Monroe said, did nothing to stop the attack.

The video, according to Monroe’s complaint, shows Soopafly hitting him, while The Game eggs the rapper on.

According to subsequent news reports, Monroe wound up getting a broken nose, bruised ribs and black eyes in the attack, requiring hospitalization.

Snoop Dogg’s staffers have claimed in previous news reports that people getting up on stage unexpectedly are interpreted as a security threat, and that steps have to be taken immediately to protect the performer.

Calls to a Kent number listed as Monroe’s did not get an immediate response.
