{"id":11335,"date":"2009-09-02T11:27:13","date_gmt":"2009-09-02T18:27:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spiken.wpengine.com\/news\/alleging-animal-mistreatment-peta-plans-protest-of-circus-in-kent\/"},"modified":"2016-10-22T21:30:36","modified_gmt":"2016-10-23T04:30:36","slug":"alleging-animal-mistreatment-peta-plans-protest-of-circus-in-kent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kentreporter.com\/news\/alleging-animal-mistreatment-peta-plans-protest-of-circus-in-kent\/","title":{"rendered":"Alleging animal mistreatment, PETA plans protest of circus in Kent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ringling.com\">Ringling Bros. and Barnum &amp; Bailey Circus<\/a> prepares for its opening-night performance at the ShoWare Center Thursday, the animal-rights group <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peta.org\">PETA<\/a> will show video footage from its 2009 undercover investigation of Ringling.<\/p>\n<p>PETA claims that in its footage, Ringling employees &#8220;can be seen beating elephants with sharp, metal-tipped bullhooks and attacking tigers with whips.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A protest will immediately follow the airing of the video.<\/p>\n<p>The video and protest are set for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, outside the main entrance to the ShoWare Center, 625 W. James St. (near the intersection of Fifth Avenue N. and W. James Street) Kent.<\/p>\n<p>PETA also has filed formal complaints with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and prosecutors and law-enforcement officials in the seven states where the abuses took place.<\/p>\n<p>Copies of PETA&#8217;s complaints and the video footage will be available.
