Kent Police cited a woman for investigation of fourth-degree assault after she allegedly punched her boyfriend in the eye inside a vehicle after an argument about money.

The boyfriend told officers he and the woman had dated for about three years, lived together off and on and had a 1-year-old baby together, according to the police report.

The man told police he was riding in his girlfriend’s car as she drove at about 1:20 p.m. Oct. 5 in the 11500 block of Southeast 221st Place. They started to argue about money and he pulled $50 out of his pocket. The woman claimed he had taken that money from her bank account.

The boyfriend denied taking the money and said it was from his last paycheck. The girlfriend then reportedly hit him in the left eye with her fist. The boyfriend feared she would hit him again, so he pulled the car’s emergency brake and grabbed her hands. After another brief argument, she dropped him off at his mother’s house and drove away.

Officers called the woman and left a message on her phone but had not yet heard back from her.

Obstructing

Officers arrested a man for investigation of obstructing after he refused to cooperate with police after he was stopped walking through the parking lot of a closed business at about 11:55 p.m. Oct. 3 in the 8700 block of South 228th Street.

An officer saw the man walking through the parking lot and asked him what he was doing in the lot of a closed business, according to the police report.

The man replied he was walking home and used the back alley as a shortcut. The officer noted the business did not have a back alley, so he figured the man was lying.

The man gave the officer one date of birth and then told him a different date. He also gave the officer a social security number that came back with no record after the officer checked the number. The officer then requested a second police unit for backup because the man appeared to by lying.

After the second officer showed up, the man gave his real name to officers and said he had warrants.

“I just don’t want to go back to jail,” he said to police.

According to jail records, the man has previously been arrested for fourth-degree assault and third-degree malicious mischief in King County as well as third-degree theft in Tukwila.

False statement

Police arrested a woman for investigation of making a false statement after she reportedly gave a false name to an officer who stopped her at about 12:04 a.m. Oct. 3 walking along Pacific Highway South on the West Hill.

The officer saw the woman and recognized her from a previous arrest, according to the police report.

When the officer checked the woman’s record, he discovered she had warrants for prostitution and theft charges. The officer recognized her by a distinctive tattoo on her upper chest.

The woman reportedly gave the officer a false name, claiming she was another woman. She also told police she had lung cancer and was going to die. She then laid down on the ground and started to shake her leg because she said she was having a seizure. Police noted that she continued to answer questions as she claimed to have a seizure and then stood up on her own.

The woman’s record included arrests for prostitution in SeaTac and Des Moines, arrest for possession of drug paraphernalia in Kent and a theft arrest in Seattle.

Drugs

Officers arrested a man for investigation of possession of marijuana, third-degree driving while license suspended and operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock device.

An officer pulled over the man’s vehicle at about 12:07 a.m. Oct. 5 in the 1400 block of West James Street after he noticed expired tabs on the car, according to the police report.

A check of the man’s record showed he had four failures to appear in court for a third-degree driving while license suspended and was required to have an ignition interlock device. He had warrants out of Kent and Des Moines.

After arresting the man on the warrants, the officer searched the man and found a plastic baggie with marijuana in the man’s jacket pocket. The man had about 3.6 grams of marijuana, according to the officer’s test results of the material in the baggie.

Theft

Police arrested a man for investigation of third-degree theft after he reportedly took 43 DVDs at about 3:09 p.m. Oct. 5 from a store in the 20800 block of 108th Avenue Southeast in the Panther Lake area.

An officer saw two loss prevention officers from the store trying to detain the man near the store, according to the police report.

The man allegedly loaded up 43 DVDs in a hand basket and left the store without paying for them. Store security followed him out of the store when he started to run away before security caught up to him and pulled him to the ground.

“I’m not a bad guy,” the man said to officers. “My mom is sick. I needed to make some money to help her with bills.”
