An experienced higher ed administrator with ties to Green River College will serve as the interim vice president of instruction.

Interim President Scott Morgan announced on Thursday that Rebecca (Rhodes) Williamson, Spokane Community College’s vice president of instruction since 2012, will fill the position vacated after Derek Brandes left to become president of Walla Walla Community College.

Williamson will be responsible for leading the development, delivery and assessment of instructional programs and services at the Auburn-based school with branches in Kent and Enumclaw. She will begin Sept. 12.

Prior to joining Spokane Community College, Williamson served as the vice president of the Institute of Extended Learning from 2010-2012 and as dean of Trades and Technology at Green River from 2006-2010.

“I believe her wealth of experience at Green River and as a vice president at (Spokane) will serve our college well over the coming year,” Morgan said in an email to campus. “In addition she brings an appreciation for faculty and students and unbridled enthusiasm for the Green River College mission.”

Williamson will follow Deb Casey, vice president of student affairs, who served as the interim vice president of instruction since June 20. Casey will return full time to her duties as vice president of student affairs.

Over the next year, Green River will conduct a national search to permanently fill the vice president of instruction position, with an anticipated hire date of July 1.
