On Monday, Nov. 22, the Kent Social Security Office will move to 321 Ramsay Way, Suite 401, in the Kent Station Shopping Complex.

Mark Young, Kent District Manager, said the move into the new space was to meet the demands of the growing population in the South King County area.

The office previously was located at 1019 West James Street in Kent, where it had been for about 12 years. Young said the office is currently serving more than 250 people per day and outgrew the West James location over the last few years.

The new space has an enlarged reception area, allows added privacy, and provides additional parking for customers, he said.

Young also indicated that, in addition to providing more space, the new office is in a more convenient location with a bus hub and the Sounder across the street.

Office hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the busiest times when the doors first open and during the noon hour, Young said. The general phone number for the Kent office is (866) 931-7671. In addition, SSA’s toll-free number, (800) 772-1213, is available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Young said much of the public’s business such as filing for retirement or disability benefits, changing address, updating direct-deposit information and applying for a new Medicare card, can be conducted online at www.socialsecurity.gov. He added that more than 40 percent of people in the Northwest file online for retirement benefits and on average, it takes only 15 minutes.
