{"id":10861,"date":"2012-03-03T21:00:48","date_gmt":"2012-03-04T05:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spiken.wpengine.com\/news\/car-theft-bill-passes-legislature-state-legislature\/"},"modified":"2016-10-22T09:20:34","modified_gmt":"2016-10-22T16:20:34","slug":"car-theft-bill-passes-legislature-state-legislature","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kentreporter.com\/news\/car-theft-bill-passes-legislature-state-legislature\/","title":{"rendered":"Car-theft bill passes Legislature | State Legislature"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><p>Legislation to curb a recent rise in car-thefts and target repeat  offenders was passed unanimously by the Senate and is on the way to the  governor to be signed into law.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>The bipartisan legislation,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/apps.leg.wa.gov\/billinfo\/summary.aspx?bill=2354&amp;year=2011\" target=\"_blank\">House Bill 2354<\/a>,  will give law enforcement more time to investigate auto theft by  extending the statute of limitations from three years to six years for  trafficking in stolen vehicles and auto parts.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\u201cThis is an important change for law enforcement,\u201d said\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.housedemocrats.wa.gov\/roster\/rep-tina-orwall\/\" target=\"_blank\">Rep. Tina Orwall, D-Des Moines<\/a>,  who sponsored the House version of\u00a0the bill.
