Ponce-Espinoza was hit at about 2:21 p.m. Saturday, according to a Washington State Patrol media release. He was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he died at about 4 p.m. Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Ponce-Espinoza was riding on a sled with his family as they headed up the Mountaineer Lodge driveway to a designated sledding area, said Lt. Scott Martin, a State Patrol spokesman.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The sled had a rope attached to it and somehow the rope came unattached,&#8221; Martin said. &#8220;His father was not able to stop him.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The boy was ejected from the sled after it hit a berm and landed on State Route 906, a two-lane road that parallels Interstate 90.
