Kent Police cited a man at large for investigation of third-degree malicious mischief, third-degree theft and obstructing a public officer after he allegedly smashed a hammer against the roof of a camper and fled from officers on a stolen bicycle.

Officers responded Dec. 13 to a camper in the 11400 block of Southeast 256th Street after a caller reported a man smashed a camper with a hammer and then threw a television out of the camper, according to the police report.

Officers arrived at the house and saw a man in the backyard. The man did not stop when yelled to stop by police. He kicked wooden slats out of a neighbor’s fence and fled on foot.

Police then spotted the man a bit later riding a bicycle on 115th Avenue Southeast. They were unable to track down the man but did find the bicycle, which reportedly had been taken out of a nearby garage.

The owner of the camper told police he had allowed the man to stay in the camper a couple of days but then told him he had to move out. That upset the man, who allegedly grabbed a hammer and started to hit the camper’s roof before he fled on foot and then on a bicycle.

Assault

Officers arrested a man for investigation of fourth-degree assault after he reportedly grabbed the arm of his sister and pulled her out of a vehicle Dec. 13 in the 2900 block of South 256th Street.

The sister told officers she sat in her mother’s car waiting to take her to the train station when her brother became upset because he did not want her to drive the car, according to the police report.

The brother grabbed his sister by the arm, pulled her out of the car and pushed her to the ground. The officers noted that the woman had bruises on her legs. She told police she did not know why her brother was so upset.

Police did not find her brother right away. He turned himself the next day at the Kent Police Station. He claimed his sister was on methadone and trying to steal their mother’s car. He said she fell to the ground when they both tried to get into the driver’s seat of the vehicle.

Officers booked the man into the city jail. The mother of the two did not witness the incident.

Warrant

Police arrested a man for a felony warrant for unlawful solicitation out of Pierce County after he was stopped while riding in a vehicle driven by another man at about 8:53 p.m. Dec. 14 near Southeast 240th Street and 108th Avenue Southeast.

Officers pulled over the car because it had expired tabs, according to the police report.

When officers ran a check on the identification of the driver and the passenger, they discovered the passenger had a warrant from the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office. They took that man to a Fife restaurant to hand him over to Pierce County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

Officers smelled marijuana when they walked up to the car, but determined there was too small of an amount to charge either man. The driver also told police he had renewed his tabs (which expired in November) online but had not received the tabs yet. Officers confirmed the man had renewed his tabs.

Assault

Officers arrested a man for investigation of fourth-degree assault after he reportedly punched his girlfriend in the arm, grabbed her by the throat and slammed her into a door Dec. 15 at an apartment in the 24900 block of 110th Avenue Southeast.

The woman told officers that they got into an argument about her boyfriend seeing another girl, according to the police report.

The boyfriend allegedly responded that he could go where he wants. He became upset after his girlfriend asked him why he wanted to stay with her when he had a new girlfriend.

Theft

Police arrested a man for investigation of third-degree theft after he allegedly took several cellphone accessories at about 1:42 p.m. Dec. 16 from a store in the 26300 block of 104th Avenue Southeast.

When officers searched the man they discovered he had more than $1,000 cash in his pockets, according to the police report.

The items the man took from the store were valued at $81. Officers watched a store video that showed the man taking items out of the boxes, placing them in a notebook on a shopping cart and then putting the empty boxes back on the shelf.

The man told police he didn’t know why he did not pay for the items, which included cellphone screen covers and an adapter.
