The victory over Winterhawks snapped Portland’s six-game winning streak.

Portland (13-8-1-1) took a 1-0 lead at 1:41 of the first period on a goal from Charles Wells. Derrick Pouliot and Taylor Peters were credited with the assists.

The T-Birds answered Portland’s goal with an unassisted goal by Chance Lund. Lund pulled ahead of Portland’s Joe Morrow and slapped the puck towards the net. Portland goalie Brendan Burke made the save but the puck lay in the crease. Lund slapped at the rebound and slid the puck through Burke’s legs to tie it up 1-1 at 2:46 of the first.

The Winterhawks led the T-Birds in shots on goal 13-12 after the first period.

Seattle (9-11-0-0) took a major lead over Portland by scoring five goals in the second period.

Gallimore opened up the second period with a goal for Seattle 10 seconds into the period. Lockhart won the opening faceoff to Brad Deagle on left defense. Deagle sent a diagonal pass to Gallimore streaking down the right side. Gallimore came into the right circle and at the faceoff dot snapped a hard wrist shot over Burke’s his glove.

The Winterhawks tied it 2-2 at 2:23 of the second on a goal from Peters with assists from Wells and Taylor Leier.

The T-Birds went in front 3-2 at 6:19 of the second on a shorthanded goal from Lockhart. Justin Hickman carried the puck slowly through neutral zone towards the end of a Portland power play. He hesitated and then made a cross ice pass to Lockhart charging through center ice. Lockhart came down on Burke and beat him with a quick snap shot over the glove.

Eight seconds later the T-Birds struck again. Deagle passed the puck to Marcel Noebels in the neutral zone who then made a quick pass to Sutter at the red line. Sutter took a slap shot on goal from outside the blue line that was tipped by a Portland defender and beat Burke high.

Gallimore scored his 10th goal of the season and second of game at 10:51 of the second to give the T-Birds a 5-2 lead. Lund moved the puck up the left boards to Lockhart. Lockhart centered the puck to Gallimore coming down the slot. Gallimore ripped a wrist shot over Burke’s glove.

Theodore registered his first career WHL goal courtesy of some fancy stick handling. Theodore carried the puck through the neutral zone and skated around a Portland defender. He then used his body to shield the puck and at the left faceoff dot put a wrist shot on goal. His shot beat Burke low over the blocker at 13:12.

Portland replaced Burke with Mac Carruth after the sixth Seattle goal. Burke made 16 saves on 22 shots and is credited with the loss, dropping his record to 1-1-0-0.
