She lost in a race against Dennis Higgins two years ago.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\u201cKent is my community,\u201d Ralph said. \u201cI\u2019ve lived here my whole life and I think it is important to address certain issues.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>One of Ralph\u2019s top issues is public safety and working with neighborhoods.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\u201cThe key is getting the community and neighbors involved,\u201d Ralph said. \u201cWe have a great police department and fire department. We need to get people out in the neighborhoods.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>She is also focusing on economic development.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\u201cWe need to bring jobs to our community and keep jobs here so people don\u2019t have to commute,\u201d Ralph said. \u201cIf we grow a job base here it lets people live and work in the same place.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>A third issue for Ralph is centering the city on providing \u201ccore services, spending money on core programs,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>The in-person filing periods for candidates is June 6-10 and by mail the period is May 20 through June 10.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>The primary election is Aug. 16 and the general election is Nov. 8.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dana Ralph announced she will be tossing a hat in the political ring for the Kent City Council, Position No. 7.<br \/>\nThe 39-year-old Ralph is running her second campaign for City Council.
