Kent Police arrested two men and two women in connection with a bar fight among themselves and with officers at the Central Avenue Pub parking lot.

The fight broke out at about 2 a.m. on Feb. 20 at 1404 Central Ave. S., according to the police report.

At one point, a woman grabbed a police Taser that had fallen to the ground during a struggle and shot at an officer. All four who were arrested are related as a brother, sister and their cousins were involved.

Witnesses indicated to police that the fight started when two Samoan women argued over a man. One of the woman involved in the fight said the dispute started about what music the DJ played. Nobody suffered serious injuries.

An officer had parked his vehicle along Central Avenue just outside the bar around closing time because of numerous problems in the past with fights at the bar’s parking lot. The officer saw a couple pushing each other and got out of his vehicle to investigate. The man told police the woman was his cousin and he was just trying to get her home because she was drunk.

A short while later, as many as 15 to 20 people were in the parking lot and more officers arrived to try to keep control of the crowd. Police arrested one man for investigation of fourth-degree assault for shoving his cousin; arrested another man for third-degree assault for punching an officer; arrested a woman for third-degree assault for kicking an officer and firing a Taser at an officer; and arrested a woman for third-degree assault for kicking an officer.

An officer struck one of the men in the arms and legs with a baton as the man clenched his fists and approached another officer. Police also fired a Taser at one of the women and one of the men.

Wife tosses husband’s computer

Officers cited a woman for third-degree malicious mischief after she reportedly threw her husband’s computer monitor at his truck and shattered the monitor.

The husband showed up on Feb. 19 at the East Hill police substation and told officers that his wife of 42 years allegedly had assaulted him, according to the police report.

The husband said his wife had “flown off the handle” since her mother died about four months ago. He said she previously had given him black eyes and that she punches him often in the chest. He said she got mad earlier in the day because he didn’t have her coffee ready so she attacked him and scratched him.

When the husband fled the home, his wife came after him and threw the computer monitor at his truck. The wife told police she threw the monitor at the truck but not at her husband.

Because the wife had bruises on her arms from where her husband had grabbed her during their dispute, police noted they were unable to determine who was the primary aggressor so they didn’t arrest either one on assault charges.

The woman told officers she threw all of her husband’s belongings into the front yard after the dispute.

Man gives false name

Police arrested a man for investigation of making a false statement after he initially gave a false name to officers looking into a suspicious subject report.

Officers arrived at about 7:59 p.m. on Feb. 19 at the driveway of a vacant home in the 25000 block of 29th Avenue South after a neighbor reported two men standing near the home, according to the police report.

An officer talked to one of the men, who appeared to be nervous and possibly on meth or another drug. The man gave the officer a name but had trouble spelling the name.

Another officer showed up with a mobile fingerprint scanner to verify the man’s identification. The man then told police he had given them a false name because he had a warrant for his arrest.

Police determined the man had a King County a $10,000 warrant for possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of stolen property.

Man flees jail work crew

Officers cited a man at-large for investigation of escape after he allegedly fled from a city jail work crew assigned to duties at the Tahoma National Cemetery.

The shuttle driver, who is a civilian and not a corrections officer, dropped off the crew at the cemetery and noted the man didn’t get off the van, according to the police report.

When the man didn’t return in the afternoon to the jail, corrections officers reported to police that the man had escaped.
