Cathy Lynch, an employee in the Kent School District Transportation Department, has been named the 2015 Citizen Educator of the Year by the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Lynch has been a volunteer instructor for active hunter education for nine years.

In 2015, she assisted in 15 hunter education classes that certified 369 students. She also helped with education instructor pre-service trainings that produced 24 new instructors and was instrumental in developing hunter education classes geared toward women, according to a press release from the school district.

The hunter education program teaches safety, wildlife management, sportsmanship and conservation, while reducing the number of annual hunting incidents in the state.

“Cathy Lynch has unselfishly donated many hours to teach the important principles of hunting safely and ethically, conservation, and wildlife management to the citizens of Washington state,” Steven Dazey, Fish and Wildlife hunter education and volunteer coordinator, said in a statement. “We at the State Department of Fish and Wildlife are indebted to her.”
