The Everett Silvertips defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 2-1 in a shootout Sunday night at ShoWare Center.<\/p>\n
Greg Scott was the T-Birds first shooter in the shootout. Everett goalie Thomas Heemskerk made a glove save on Scott. Kellan Tochkin was Everett’s first shooter. Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard made the save on Tochkin’s attempt.<\/p>\n
Prab Rai was Seattle’s second shooter and Heemskerk made a poke check to keep the puck out of the net. Shane Harper was the Tips second shoot and he beat Pickard with a backhand move.<\/p>\n
Jim O’Brien was the T-Birds’ third shoot and he tried to go five-hole, but Heemskerk made the save to get the Tips the win.<\/p>\n
Seattle (31-29-1-4) outshot Everett 14-7 in the first period.<\/p>\n
The T-Birds took a 1-0 lead at 6:01 of the second period on a shorthanded goal by Rai. Thomas Hickey had the puck in the Seattle zone and passed it to Rai in the neutral zone. Rai carried the puck into the Everett zone on the side on a one-on-one and then hesitated as Scott came down the slot. Rai passed it to Scott who put a shot on goal. The puck rebounded into the slot in front of Everett goalie Thomas Heemskerk. Rai followed up Scott’s shot, got to the rebound and beat Heemskerk high for the goal.<\/p>\n
The T-Birds outshot the Tips 1-5 in the second period and led 24-12 in total shots after two periods.<\/p>\n
Harper scored a power-play goal at 16:29 of the third period to tie the game 1-1. Graham Potuer had the only assist on the goal.<\/p>\n
Everett (26-31-7-2) outshot Seattle 17-6 in the third period.<\/p>\n
The Silvertips had a 2-0 advantage in shots in overtime and 32-30 in the game.<\/p>\n
Pickard made 30 saves on 31 shots and his record is now 20-13-1-4.<\/p>\n
Heemskerk stopped 29 of 30 shots and his record is 15-17-3-3.<\/p>\n
The T-Birds face the defending league champion Spokane Chiefs on Tuesday, March 3, at 7:05 p.m. at ShoWare Center.<\/p>\n
The T-Birds have clinched a spot in the WHL playoffs. Single-game play tickets will go on sale on March 11 on the T-Birds website or the ShoWare Center box office.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
