Kentridge, Kentwood sprinters set the pace at All-City meet

Kentridge High’s Solomon Hines captured the 100- and 200-meter races and anchored the winning sprint relay at the Kent All-City meet at French Field on May 3.

Hines stopped the clock at 10.85 seconds in the 100, posted a personal-best time of 21.76 in the 200 and anchored the 400 relay that included Nathan Peak, Deontae Roberts and Caleb Barrerain to a winning effort in 43.12.

Hines has the state’s fifth-best 100 time and the third-best 200 time as teams prepare for this week’s North Puget Sound League championships at French Field. The meet opened Wednesday and concludes Friday.

The Chargers’ 400 relay has the state’s fourth-best time of 42.79, set on April 26.

Elsewhere, Kentridge’s Tyler Cronk tripled, winning the high jump (6 feet, 8 inches), long jump (22-6¾) and triple jump (43-4¾).

In girls action, Kentwood’s Hailey Suit took the 100 (personal-best 12.05; sixth-best state time this season) and joined three winning relay teams.

Suit anchored the 400 relay, with Jessica Robinson, Skyler Pollak and Faith Marshall (49.12; state’s fourth-best time this season), and the 800 relay, with Pollak, Robinson and Alyssa Gonzalez (1:44.29; also the state’s fourth-best time this season). Suit led off the 1,600 relay, with Skyler and Emma Pollak, and Ayanna Hollis (4:15.33).

Emma Pollak added a win in the 300 intermediate hurdles (46.77), and Marshall won the 100 hurdles (15.58).

Kentlake’s Jordan Fong tripled, taking the shot put (40-5), discus (139-4) and javelin (115-2).

The Kent-Meridian 800 relay team of Makayla McIntosh, Brianna Kamran, Qwaniah Levy and Olivia Carter) settled for second, but its time of 1:45.09 is ranked No. 7 in the state.

Kentridge’s Lauryn Ford, who was second in the 100 and 200 meters, won the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, the state’s 10th-best mark.

The Chargers’ Bonet Henderson won the 200 with a personal-best 25.50.
