Tri-City Americans hit five goals to defeat Seattle Thunderbirds | Hockey

Brendan Shinnimin scored four goals and Patrick Holland had four assists for the Tri-City Americans in a 5-1 victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds Sunday night at the ShoWare Center.

Seattle plays their next five games on the road. First up, the T-Birds travel to Kennewick to face the Americans on Tuesday, February 28, at the Toyota Center at 7:05 p.m. Seattle then faces the Everett Silvertips Friday, March 2, at the Comcast Arena at 7:35 p.m.

Seattle (21-38-1-1) is in eighth in the Western Conference playoff standings, two points behind the seventh place Victoria Royals. The T-Birds are one point ahead of the ninth place Silvertips.

Tri-City (44-15-1-2) scored two goals in the last five minutes of the first period to give them a 2-0 lead. Shinnimin scored the Americans first goal of the night at 16:17. Patrick Holland had the only assist.

Shinnimin scored for Tri-City on a power-play goal at 19:04 of the first. Adam Hughesman and Holland had the assists.

The Americans led the T-Birds 15-2 in shots on goal after the first period.

Tri-City took a 3-0 lead at 1:21 of the second period on a five-on-three power-play goal from Shinnimin, his third of the night. Justin Feser had the only assist on the goal.

Shinnimin scored his and the Americans’ fourth goal of the game at 11:23 on a power play. Holland is credited with the single assist.

Tri-City led Seattle 27-9 in shots after two periods.

Hughesman scored the Americans’ fifth goal of the night on a power play at 3:06 of the third. Shinnimin and Holland had the assists.

Seattle got on the board with a goal from Luke Lockhart at 12:23 of the third. Shea Theodore passed the puck to Burke Gallimore who carried it to the left circle. Gallimore took a shot but that was stopped by Tri-City goalie Ty Rimmer’s pads. Lockhart got the rebound and shot the puck past Rimmer’s right side to score his 12th goal of the season.

The Americans finished with a 34-21 advantage in shots.

Daniel Cotton stopped 29 on 34 shots for Seattle bringing his record to 0-7-0-0.

Rimmer made 20 saves on 21 shots for Tri-City increasing his record to 26-10-0-1.

T-Birds single game tickets for the 2011-12 season are available online at the T-Birds website and at the ShoWare Center box office. The ShoWare Center Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday game days at 10 a.m. and Sunday game days at noon.
