For the Reporter

Nick Holowko and Jarret Tyszka each had a goal and an assist Friday night to lead the Seattle Thunderbirds to a 3-1 victory over the Everett Silvertips at the Silvertips Holiday Inn Preseason Classic at Xfinity Arena.

This was the first game of the preseason for the T-Birds. Classic play continues at 3 p.m. Saturday, with the T-Birds playing the Tri-City Americans. The Classic concludes at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, with Seattle taking on the Spokane Chiefs.

The T-Birds took a 1-0 lead at 7:08 of the first period. Donovan Neuls carried the puck down the left wing and into the Everett zone. Neuls cut into the left circle and beat Everett goalie Carter Hart over the right shoulder with a wrist shot. Jarret Tyszka had the only assist on the goal.

Seattle extended the lead to 2-0 at 11:52 of the first. Scott Eansor passed the puck to Holowko to create a three-on-two break. Holowko crossed the blue line and passed the puck to Tyszka who skated into the right circle. Tyszka brought the puck to his forehand and put a wrist shot over Hart’s right shoulder.

The T-Birds took a 3-0 lead at 4:39 of the third period on a power-play goal from Holowko. Bryan Allbee took a slap shot from the left point that rebounded off the end boards right to Holowko at the right post. Holowko caught the puck on his backhand and in one motion slid the puck under Hart. Cavin Leth had the second assist.

Everett got on the board at 9:43 of the third on a goal from Noah Juulsen. Brian King had the only assist.

Everett outshot Seattle 31-25 in the game.

Seattle goalie Carl Stankowski stopped 30 of 31 shots.

Hart made 22 saves on 25 shots.
