Seattle Thunderbirds goalie Brandon Glover received a two-game suspension from the Western Hockey League after he charged the ice to fight with the Everett Silvertips goalie Austin Lotz during a March 9 game at the ShoWare Center in Kent.
The WHL announced the suspension Monday. Glover received the two-game suspension for game misconduct. He skated down the ice late in the 4-3 loss to Everett to fight Lotz at the goal. An official tried to stop Glover from reaching Lotz, but failed to cut him off. The league also fined Seattle $500 for the fight.
The suspension comes at a critical time as the T-Birds try to earn one of the eight playoff berths out of the Western Conference with only three games remaining. They are one point ahead of Everett for seventh place and five points ahead of Prince George. Eight of the 10 teams advance to the playoffs.
Seattle closes the regular season with a game Tuesday against Tri-Cities at the ShoWare and then a home-and-home series against conference-leading Portland on Friday and Saturday. The T-Birds have failed to make the playoffs three straight seasons with ninth-place finishes.
Glover has started 58 games. Rookie goalies Danny Mumaugh has 15 starts and Justin Myles has eight starts
Meanwhile, Seattle defenseman Evan Wardley also has been suspended two games after he picked up his fourth game misconduct of the season in the game against Everett.
