Michael Horon had two goals and two assists and Simon Kubicek, Payton Mount and Brendan Williamson each had a goal and two assists to lead the Seattle Thunderbirds to an 8-3 WHL victory over the Portland Winterhawks at the Red Lion Hotels’ Preseason Tournament in Kennewick.
The T-Birds (4-0-1-0) wrap up preseason play with a home game against the Everett Silvertips at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday at the accesso ShoWare Center.
Mount leads the T-Birds in scoring during the preseason with four goals and four assists in three games. Horon is second with seven points on two goals and five assists in four games.
Seattle jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first period on a five-on-three power-play goal by Andrej Kukuca at 5:54 and a power-play goal by Conner Bruggen-Cate at 6:34. Mount and Kubicek had the assists on Kukuca’s goal and Williamson and Tyrel Bauer had the assists on Bruggen-Cate’s goal.
The T-Birds added three more goals in the first period to get a 5-0 lead after one period.
Williamson scored at 8:09 on an assist from Michael Horon.
Horon scored 3:20 after the T-Birds third goal with Williamson and Jared Davidson having the assists.
Lucas Ciona scored at 13:22 of the first to make it a 5-0 lead. Mount had an assist on the goal.
In the second period the Winterhawks scored three goals and the T-Birds scored twice.
Mason Mannek got Portland on the board 22 seconds into the period.
Mount answered back for the T-Birds at 6:49 on an assist from Owen Williams.
Lane Gilliss scored at 9:37 and Jaydon Dureau on the power play at 14:26.
Kubicek scored on the power play at 17:28 on assist from Horon and Bruggen-Cate to make it a 7-3 T-Birds lead after two periods.
Horon scored the T-Birds’ eighth goal, on the power play, at 6:54 of the third period on assists from Conner Roulette and Kubicek.
Seattle goalie Blake Lyda had 24 saves on 27 shots.

The T-Birds begin the regular season against the Kamloops Blazers at 6:05 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 at the ShoWare Center.
