Three T-Birds make NHL Central Scouting Midterm Rankings

Kubicek, Bauer and Lyda

Three Seattle Thunderbirds are listed on the NHL Central Scouting Midterm Rankings released Monday for 2020 NHL Draft scheduled for June 26 and June 27 in Montreal, Quebec.

Defenseman Simon Kubicek is ranked 95. Kubicek, born Dec. 19, 2001, is in his second season with the T-Birds and has four goals and 14 assists in 30 games. Last season he had nine goals and 19 assists for 29 points with 57 penalty minutes in 61 games. Kubicek was selected by the T-Birds in the second round, 89th overall, in the 2018 CHL Import Draft.

Kubicek recently returned from representing the Czech Republic at the 2020 World Junior Championship. He had a goal and two assists at the Junior Championship.

Defenseman Tyrel Bauer is ranked 168. Bauer, born March 23, 2002, is in his second season with the T-Birds and has three goals and six assists in 37 games. Last season he played in 64 games and had two goals and 12 assists for 14 points with 91 penalty minutes. Bauer was selected by the T-Birds in the second round, 41st overall, in the 2017 Bantam Draft.

Goalie Blake Lyda is ranked number 23 among goalies. Lyda, born May 21, 2002, is in his first season with the T-Birds. He has appeared in 12 games and has a 3-6-0-0 record with a 4.55 goals against average and a .878 save percentage. Lyda was acquired from the Everett Silvertips on May 2, 2019, for a third round pick in the 2021 Bantam Draft.

Kubicek, Bauer and Lyda are three of 57 WHL players listed on the NHL Central Scouting Midterm Rankings.

The T-Birds next game is 7:35 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17 against the Regina Pats at accesso ShoWare Center. This game is the fourth and final Dave and Buster’s Pub Night of the season. Fans can get a ticket, hat and beer to the game for $22 with a minimum purchase of 10.
