A 32-year-old Tacoma man won the 39th annual Christmas Rush 10K Fun Run in Kent.
Francis Reynolds, a former runner at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, covered the course in 34 minutes, 17.9 seconds. A total of 129 runners competed in the 10K on Saturday, Dec. 11, presented by the city of Kent Parks Department. The course started and finished at Hogan Park at Russell Road, 24400 Russell Road. Conditions were windy and rainy.
James Roach, 36, of Auburn placed second in 35:20.4; Daniel Castelluccio, 16, of Maple Valley, took third in 36:01.3; Jackson Rye, 19, of Renton, placed fourth in 37:43.8; and August Byzinker, 41, of Kent, finished fifth in 38:06.1.
Elva Williams, 37, of Seattle, took first among the female competitors in 40:27.3. She finished 11th overall.
A total of 347 people participated in the 5K run and walk.
Josh Harrington, 17, a senior at Kentlake High School, won the 5K in 17:17.1. Harrington won the North Puget Sound League cross country title in October and placed 22nd at the Class 3A state meet.
Brian Esparza, 22, of Bellingham, took second in 17:40.8; Nicholas Shepard, 21, of Kent, placed third in 17:47.8; Bhagat Subedi, 18, of Kent, finished fourth in 18:09.5; and Matthew Nechiporuk, 22, of Kent, placed fifth in 18:37.9.
Sarah Paquet, 22, of Lacey, was the top female with a time of 18:46.6. She finished sixth overall. Paquet is a former runner at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma.
The 10K course started on Russell Road, headed south and turned west on to Meeker Street. Once over the bridge, runners headed nearly to South 212th Street and returned. Runners crossed over the pedestrian bridge and took a hard left on the trail to bring them back to the finish line.
The 5K course started on Russell Road and headed south to Meeker Street and turned right. Once over the bridge, runners turned north on to Frager Road. They then turned around and turned left to go over the foot bridge that leads to the golf course. Once over the foot bridge, they turned north on to the trail along the Green River and followed to finish in front of the city shops building on South 240th Street.
