The Calgary Hitmen defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-2 in overtime Oct. 16 at Kent’s ShoWare Center.

Calgary (4-4-0-0) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead at 6:45 of the first period during a scramble in front of the Seattle net. Cody Beach scored his third goal of the season. Kris Foucault was credited with the only assist.

In front of a season high 5,473 fans Seattle (5-2-1-0) evened the score at 18:46 of the first period on Charles Wells’ second goal of the season. Defenseman Brenden Dillon passed the puck from the blue line to the right circle to Brendan Rouse. Rouse immediately made a cross-ice pass that found a wide open Wells at the bottom of the left circle. Wells fired a wrist shot into the top left corner of the net over a diving Juraj Holly to tie the game at one just before the first intermission.

The T-Birds outshot the Hitmen 11-9 in the first period.

The T-Birds grabbed a 2-1 lead at 15:41 of the second period on Tyler Alos’ first goal of the season. Marcel Noebels carried the puck into the Calgary zone and turned around to send a pass to Dillon, who was waiting at the left point. Dillon fired a low slap shot that was deflected by Alos into the right side of the net for a power-play goal.

Calgary tied the game with a power-play goal of their own at 19:33 of the second period by Justin Kirsch, his fourth goal of the season. MacKenzie registered the only assist.
