The Tacoma Stars have signed international player and MASL veteran Jonathan Greenfield to a contract.
As per team and league policies, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Greenfield, a South Africa native, began his professional soccer career with Vasco da Gama, a Cape Town-based team. He then spent three years with the Mamelodi Sundowns of the South African Premier Soccer League before moving to the United States.
His U.S. pro career began indoors with the first of two stints with the Milwaukee Wave.
Greenfield, a member of the United States beach soccer team, also had indoor stops with the Detroit Ignition, Cedar Rapids Rampage, and Baltimore Blast. He captured a NISL Title in 2009 as a member of the Blast. He has 71 career indoor goals to his credit.
His time and success in the indoor game has also shown his ability to be a team leader, a fact that Stars coach Nick Perera noticed.
“Signing Jonathan is an important step forward for our team,” Perera said. “Jonathan is one of the more intelligent players this league has seen, and we are very confident his ability and leadership skills will help the Stars on and off the field.”
The Stars continue their road trip on Friday when they visit the El Paso (Texas) Coyotes. Kickoff is 5:15 p.m. and can be seen on MASL.tv.
The Stars’ next home action comes on Sunday, Feb. 17 against the Pacific Division-leading San Diego Sockers. Kickoff is 5:05 pm.
