Stars poised for rematch against the Express | MASL

The Tacoma Stars (9-5) continue their extended homestand with a match against the Turlock Express (2-9) on Friday at the ShoWare Center.

The Stars enter the match riding a two-game winning streak that has vaulted them back into second place in the Pacific Division of the Major Arena Soccer League.

Tacoma forward Dan Antoniuk and midfielder Michael Ramos contributed a pair of goals in the Stars’ 7-5 victory over the Cedar Rapids Rampage last Friday.

The Express and Stars have faced off once previously this season, with Tacoma taking home a 7-2 victory on Nov. 13 in Turlock. Forward Joey Gjertsen recorded a brace in the match, while goalkeeper Danny Waltman notched a season-high 30 saves on 32 shots.

Midfielder Arturo Pulido leads the offensive effort for Turlock with 20 points coming off 11 goals and nine assists. Defenders Jose Barajas and Martyn Arista, along with midfielder Adrian Gutierrez, have all notched double-digit point totals for the Express this year. Goalkeeper Edgar Martinez has spent over 550 minutes in net for the Express, recording 234 saves on 304 shots while allowing an average of 7.57 goals per match.

Tacoma sports five players with double-digit point totals and is led by forward Derek Johnson, who has knocked in eight goals and contributed nine assists for 17 points. Forward Dan Antoniuk has netted a team-best 13 goals for the Stars, and is averaging one goal per game. Stars goalkeeper Danny Waltman leads the league with 848:25 minutes in goal and ranks fifth in goals against average (5.02).
