The Kent-based Tacoma Stars continue to solidify their lineup for the upcoming Major Arena Soccer League season by welcoming back midfielder Raphael Cox.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed, per team and league policies.
“Raphael is an elite player with incredible pedigree and an invaluable member of the organization,” said Stars coach Nick Perera. “Bringing Raphael back was a priority for the Stars. He can play anywhere on the field, he’s technically excellent, he can score, he can defend and he’s lightning quick. We are all very enthused he’s coming back.”
Cox, a Tacoma native, has played 53 games for his hometown team with 30 goals and 17 assists. His elite-level soccer play began as a standout for Stadium High School in Tacoma. He played one year for Highline Community College before transferring to the University of Washington. As a Husky, Cox was twice recognized with All-Pac 10 honors, and in his senior year he was named to the all-conference first team.
Following his collegiate career, Cox was drafted and played for Real Salt Lake of the MLS, making his debut in 2009 against the Seattle Sounders FC. After his time with Real Salt Lake he played in the North American Soccer League with the Atlanta Silverbacks and Tampa Bay Rowdies.
In 2019 Cox found his way back to the purple and gold when he was named an assistant coach with the the Huskies.
The Stars have announced their 2019-2020 season schedule.
