Stars explode for 12-5 victory over Ambush | MASL

The Tacoma Stars (11-5) notched a season-high 12 goals on the way to a 12-5 victory over the St. Louis Ambush (2-13) on Friday night at the ShoWare Center.

The Tacoma Stars (11-5) notched a season-high 12 goals on the way to a 12-5 victory over the St. Louis Ambush (2-13) on Friday night at the ShoWare Center.

Stars midfielders Jamael Cox, Joseph Cairel, and Michael Ramos each scored twice in the Tacoma outburst. Four stars players notched two assists, while 12 separate players earned points. Goalkeeper Danny Waltman contributed 20 saves on 25 shots.

The Stars jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a goal from forward Vince McCluskey just over four minutes into the match. Tacoma forward Dan Antoniuk took a feed from Ramos and added a goal of his own a minute later to extend Tacoma’s lead to 2-0.

A trio of goals from forward Derek Johnson, Ramos, and defender Adam West in the second quarter widened the Stars advantage to 5-0 heading into the half.

Raphael Cox struck early in the second half, extending the Stars lead to 6-0 with a goal 35 seconds after the break. A pair of St. Louis goals and a score from Tacoma midfielder Troy Peterson sent the Stars into the fourth quarter with a 7-2 lead.

Tacoma and St. Louis launched a barrage of goals in the final quarter, combining to find the back of the net eight times. Jamael Cox and Cairel each recorded braces in the quarter, while Ramos completed his. Cairel capped off the night with a goal 41 seconds before time expired, sealing the Stars 12-5 victory.

The Stars return to the road when they face off against the San Diego Sockers on Thursday, Feb. 11. First kick is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
