The first South Sound Charity 5K Run and Youth Dash is set for 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 7 in Kent.
Proceeds will benefit the Officer Diego Moreno Washington State University Scholarship Award. Moreno died in the line of duty in July 2018 when he was hit by another officer’s vehicle.
The run will start at Half Lion Public House at the Riverbend Golf Complex. The Kent Police Foundation and Half Lion are partners in the event. The goal is to raise $25,000 to endow the scholarship and provide financial backing to award the scholarship for many years to come. The scholarship is awarded to a WSU student majoring in criminal justice.
