Brian Smith will replace Dave Lutes as the Kent School District’s director of athletics and activities.
The hiring of Smith was announced by Superintendent Calvin Watts on the school district’s website.
Smith will leave his position as assistant executive director with the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) to take the Kent job. Lutes retired earlier this month after 29 years as district athletic director and 42 years with the district.
Smith joined the WIAA in 2011 after working as athletic director and leadership teacher at Bellingham High School, where he also coached wrestling. A Fife High School graduate, Smith received a health sciences degree from Eastern Washington University in Cheney in 1992. He earned a masters in sports administration in 2009 from Concordia University.
