Six T-Birds heading to NHL training camps

Rempe, Bauer, Roulette, Ciona, Hanzel and Rybinski

Six Kent-based Seattle Thunderbirds players will attend NHL training camps this fall.

“The fact that we are sending more and more players to camps every year is an indication of the quality of scouting and development within our organization,” said general manager Bil La Forge in an Aug. 18 T-Birds press release. “The credit for this success is shared between our scouts, coaching staff and the hard work of the players. I am confident this number will continue to grow in the coming years.”

The six T-Birds heading to camps that begin in mid-September are:

• Center Matthew Rempe, New York Rangers camp. Rempe was selected by the Rangers in the 2020 NHL Draft, round 6, 165th overall.

• Defenseman Tyrel Bauer, Winnipeg Jets camp. Bauer was selected by the Jets in the 2020 NHL Draft, round 6, 164th overall.

• Left wing Conner Roulette, Dallas Stars camp. Roulette was selected by the Stars in the 2021 NHL Draft, round 4, 111th overall.

• Left wing Lucas Ciona, Calgary Flames camp. Ciona was selected by the Flames in the 2021 NHL Draft, round 6, 173rd overall.

• Defenseman Jeremy Hanzel, Tampa Bay Lightning camp as a free agent.

• Center Henrik Rybinski, Edmonton Oilers camp as a free agent.

The T-Birds start the 2021-2022 Western Hockey League regular season on the road against the Portland Winterhawks on Saturday, Oct. 2 at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

The home opener for Seattle is at 6:05 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9, against the Winterhawks at accesso ShoWare Center.
