Silvertips skate past T-Birds in preseason game | WHL

The Everett Silvertips defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 5-3 Friday night at Xfinity Arena in a preseason game.

The T-Birds and Tips finish their preseason schedule Saturday with a 7 p.m. game at the ShoWare Center.

Everett took a 1-0 lead at 13:53 of the first period on a goal from Reece Vitelli.

The Silvertips had a 3-0 lead after two periods on goals from Sean Richards at 1:12 and Connor Dewar at 6:43 of the second period.

The T-Birds got on the board 31 seconds in to the third period on a power-play goal from Donovan Neuls. Nolan Volcan passed the puck to Neuls in the left circle. Neuls beat Everett goalie Dorrin Luding low on the glove side for the goal. Jarret Tyszka had the second assist.

Everett took the three-goal lead back at 2:07 of the third on a goal from Dawson Butt.

Neuls cut the lead back to two goals at 2:58 of the third. Volcan took a shot that Neuls collected low in the slot. Neuls beat Luding with a backhand shot high for his second goal of the game.

Seattle cut the Everett lead to one goal at 5:58 of the third on a goal from Tyler Adams. Volcan passed the puck up to Adams on the left wing to create two-on-one. Adams skated into the left circle and beat Luding over the blocker. Neuls had the second assist.

Seattle pulled goalie Matt Berlin for an extra attacker with just under two minutes left in the game. The Silvertips iced the game on an Orrin Centazzo empty-net goal with 21 seconds left in the game.

Everett outshot Seattle 29-28 in the game.

Berlin had 24 saves on 28 shots.

Luding made 25 saves on 28 shots.

T-Birds single-game tickets for the Sept. 23 home opener against Tri-City, feature the raising of two championship banners, are on sale online and at the ShoWare Center box office.
