Branden Troock had two goals and Burke Gallimore had a goal and an assist Wednesday night to help lead the Seattle Thunderbirds to a 5-2 victory over the Regina Pats at ShoWare Center.
Seattle (10-11-0-0) has now won three games in a row and five of their last six games.
The T-Birds face the Prince George Cougars on Friday at the ShoWare Center at 7:35pm.
Chandler Stephenson scored Regina’s (12-10-1-1) first goal of the night at 11:15 of the first. The goal was unassisted.
Stephenson made the score 2-0 at 14:28 of the first with a goal assisted by Lane Scheidl and Ricard Blidstrand.
At 15:14 of the first, Branden Troock and Tyler Alos cut the Pats’ lead to 2-1. Alos took a hard wrist shot from the top of the right circle that Regina goalie Matt Hewitt blocked with his stick. The puck rebounded off of Hewitt’s stick straight into Troock’s shin, and then into the goal.
T-Birds led 17-15 in shots on goal at the end of the first period.
The T-Birds tied up the score 2-2 at 6:28 of the second. Gallimore took the puck up through the neutral zone on the left and then passed it to Noebels on the right side of the neutral zone. Noebels carried the puck into Regina zone and then passed it back across the ice to Troock in the left circle. Troock controlled the puck as he moved towards the goal, and then chipped it over Hewitt’s left pad and into the net.
The Pats took a 28-27 lead in shots on goal at the end of the second period.
T-Birds went in front 3-2 at 1:22 of the third on an unassisted goal by Gallimore. A Regina defender tried a back-hand pass up the slot, but Gallimore intercepted it. He skated in on Hewitt and beat him with a hard wrist shot over the glove from in between the circles.
Kyle Verdino made it 4-2 at 7:50 of the third on a power-play goal assisted by Chance Lund and Luke Lockhart. Lund passed it to Lockhart in the middle of the left circle. Lockhart hesitated then passed it to Verdino who was sneaking low to the right of the goal. Verdino pushed the puck into the net under Hewitt’s outstretched left pad.
At 15:13 of the third, Lund scored an unassisted goal to put the T-Birds in front 5-2. Lund got to a loose puck and skated up the ice with one defender in front of him. He carried the puck into the Regina zone and from the left circle put a slap shot on goal. Lund’s shot beat Hewitt over the blocker for his seventh goal of the year.
The T-Birds finished the game with a 40-36 advantage in shots.
Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard saved 34 of Regina’s 36 shots, upping his record to 10-9-0-0.
Hewitt made 35 saves on 40 shots and his record is now 12-6-1-1.
