Seattle Thunderbirds open Rookie Camp Aug. 25 in Kent

Fans can watch the Seattle Thunderbirds in action during four Rookie Camp scrimmages Thursday, Aug. 25 and Friday, Aug. 26 at the ShoWare Center in Kent.

Fans can watch the Seattle Thunderbirds in action during four Rookie Camp scrimmages Thursday, Aug. 25 and Friday, Aug. 26 at the ShoWare Center in Kent.

The free scrimmages are from 9-11 a.m. and 5-7 p.m. both days.

The main training camp opens Sunday, Aug. 28 and will feature numerous scrimmages that also are open to the public.

On Aug. 28, there will be three 30-minute scrimmages starting at 3 p.m. at the ShoWare Center. In scrimmage 1, Team Blue plays Team White. In scrimmage 2, Team Blue plays Team Grey. In scrimmage 3, Team Grey plays Team White.

The three scrimmages will include a 15-minute warm-up session and be played one after the other.

On Monday, Aug. 29, Team Blue takes on Team Grey at 5 p.m. at the ShoWare Center. On Tuesday, Aug. 30, Team Blue plays Team Grey at 6 p.m. at Kent Valley Ice Centre. The scrimmages will feature two 25-minute halves.

Fans attending any of the scrimmages at the ShoWare Center should enter on the east side of the building.

The Thunderbirds have a six-game preseason schedule. They will play two games at the Everett Silvertips preseason tournament at Comcast Arena. The T-Birds play the Spokane Chiefs at 3 p.m. Sept. 2 and the Silvertips at 5 p.m. Sept. 4.

The T-Birds then travel to Kennewick for two games at the Red Lion Hotel Preseason Tournament at the Toyota Center. On Friday, Sept. 9, the T-Birds will face the Chiefs at 3 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 10, they play the Silvertips at 11 a.m.

The T-Birds travel to Portland to take on the Winterhawks on Friday, Sept. 16, at 5:30 p.m. at the Winterhawks Skating Center.

Seattle wraps up the preseason schedule when it hosts the Silvertips at 7:05 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17. Single game tickets for the home preseason game go on sale Aug. 25.

Seattle opens the 2011-12 regular season against the Winterhawks at 7:05 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 at the ShoWare Center.

Single-game tickets for regular season games go on sale Aug. 24 and can be purchased at the T-Birds website or at the ShoWare Center box office. The box office is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
