Seattle Thunderbirds left wing Marcel Noebels has joined Team Germany for the 2012 World Junior Championship and will miss five games with the Kent-based team.
The round-robin tournament for the International Ice Hockey Federation U-20 teams runs from Dec. 11-17 in Germany. T-Birds general manager Russ Farwell announced the move Thursday.
Germany will play in Division 1 Group A at the tournament against Austria, Belarus, Great Britain, Norway and Slovenia. The team that wins Division 1 Group A earns a spot in the Top Division for the 2013 World Junior Championship.
Noebels is Seattle’s second-leading scorer this season with nine goals and 11 assists in 25 games. Burke Gallimore leads the team with 14 goals and seven assists.
The T-Birds (11-14-0-1 record) play the Prince George Cougars (10-19-0-2) at 7:35 p.m. Friday at the ShoWare Center and are home again at 7:05 p.m. Saturday against the Victoria Royals (12-18-1-1).
