The Tri-City Americans defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-3 Sunday night at the ShoWare Center in the T-Birds season finale.
The 2010-2011 Seattle Thunderbirds season awards were announced after the game.
The Most Valuable Players were Brenden Dillon and Calvin Pickard. Dillon finished the season with 8 goals and 51 assists, Pickard finished the season with a .916 save percentage.
The Rookie of the Year was Marcel Noebels. Noebels finished the season with 28 goals and 26 assists.
The Top Scorer was Burke Gallimore, who scored 34 goals and had 36 assists on the season.
The Defenseman of the Year and Most Improved Award was given to Dillon.
The Humanitarian Award was given to Travis Toomey.
The Scholastic Award was given to Mitch Elliot. Elliot attends Kent-Meridian High School.
The Most Dedicated Award was given to Austin Frank and Michael Salmon.
The T-Birds opened the game’s scoring at 2:09 of the first period. Noebels sent a hard wrist shot ringing off the underside of the crossbar and in the back of the net for his 28th goal of the year. Noebels’ goal was unassisted.
The Americans tied the game up 1-1 at 15:30 of the first period. Drydn Dow scored, assisted by Lucas Nickles and Marcus Messier.
The T-Birds regained the lead just before the end of the first period. Connor Sanvido scored his second goal of the season to take the 2-1 lead, assisted by Luke Lockhart at 18:58.
The first period would end with Seattle holding the 2-1 advantage, while Tri-City held a 14-7 shot advantage.
The Americans scored the second period’s lone goal in the second period at 6:30. Jordan Messier scored, assisted by Tyler Schmidt and Patrick Holland.
After forty minutes, Tri-Cities had outshot Seattle 21-16.
Tri-Cities scored first in the third period when Justin Feser scored, assisted by Jordan Messier and Holland on the power-play at 5:50.
Seattle knotted the game up at 3-3 after Tyler Alos backhanded a clean rebound to the back of the net. Lockhart and Erik Bonsor assisted on the goal at 16:16 of the third.
The T-Birds outshot the Americans 16-9 during the third period, leaving them with a 32-30 advantage at the end of regulation.
Tri-Cities netted the game winner at 2:39 of the overtime period. Kruise Reddick scored, assisted by Jordan Messier and Connor Rankin.
The Americans outshot the T-Birds 2-1 in the shootout, but the T-Birds outshot the Americans 33-32 for the game.
Salmon (0-2-1-1) made 28 saves on 32 shots for the Thunderbirds.
Chris Driedger (6-6-0-1) made 30 saves on 33 shots for the Americans.
