The Seattle Thunderbirds junior hockey team has picked up another player from the Portland Winterhawks.
Seattle claimed former Winterhawk center Dillon Wagner off waivers Wednesday. The T-Birds on Tuesday traded wing Marcel Noebels to Portland for wing Seth Swenson and first-round picks in the 2012 and 2013 Western Hockey League Bantam Drafts.
“We are happy to be able to add Dillon to fill our open 20-year-old spot,” said Seattle General Manager Russ Farwell. “He has earned respect in the league both for his work ethic and leadership and is a great addition for us at this time.”
Wagner, from Duffield, Alberta, appeared in 17 games with the Winterhawks this season and had seven points on three goals and four assists. In 180 career WHL games with the Swift Current Broncos and Winterhawks, Wagner has 31 goals and 29 assists for 60 points with 193 penalty minutes.
Wagner and right wing Burke Gallimore and defenseman Cason Machacek are the three 20 year olds on the T-Birds roster.
The T-Birds travel to Kamloops, British Columbia to take on the Blazers on Friday at Interior Savings Centre. They play the Winterhawks at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at the ShoWare Center in Kent.
