For the Reporter

The Seattle Impact FC has announced the addition of midfielder Corey Maret.

Seattle is the newest member of the 23-team Major Arena Soccer League (MASL), the indoor game’s top-tier division throughout North America. Seattle officially joined the MASL on July 8, with Dion Earl, Bellevue native and former Sounders and SeaDogs player, as owner and CEO.

Impact FC will play all 10 home games at the ShoWare Center, beginning with a Nov. 8 date with the 14-time indoor champion San Diego Sockers.

Born in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Maret received the nickname “Big Play Maret” as a record-breaking player at Forest High School in Ocala, Fla.

At the University of North Carolina Greensboro, Maret helped the Spartans reach the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament each year.

Maret has indoor and outdoor soccer experience in the United States and Europe.

In 2009, Maret left the U.S. to pursue a professional outdoor soccer career in Germany. In two seasons with Lichterfelder FC 1892 and FC Hertha 03, he earned some starts and scored some goals for both teams.

Maret came home in 2011 and played for the Premier Arena Soccer League’s Louisville Lightning, where he ended the season as the league’s 2011 Golden Boot winner. After taking a year off to rehabilitate in 2012, Maret debuted as a member of the Major Indoor Soccer League’s Pennsylvania Roar in 2013 but left the team after one season.

New to the Pacific Northwest, Maret is excited to become a member of the Impact and a part of the community.

“I feel blessed to be playing in one of the biggest fan-based cities in North America,” Maret said. “I hope to stay here and make a career with Seattle, on and off the field, and help push us to win a championship in the near future.”
