For the Reporter

The Tacoma Stars wrapped up their season series with the San Diego Sockers and were swept, this time 10-3, in front of 2,694 fans on Military Appreciation Night at the Accesso ShoWare Center on Friday.

The Stars dropped to 8-10 on the MASL season. The Pacific Division-leading Sockers improved to 13-3.

After a close first quarter ended with a 1-0 San Diego lead on Brian Farber’s goal, the flood gates opened for the Sockers. Farber, Erick Tovar, Brandon Escoto and Kraig Chiles each scored to build a 5-0 lead with 6:06 left in the first half.

Taylor Walter Bond knocked one in for Tacoma with 1:22 on the clock to make it 5-1. Chiles picked up his second goal of the match with just 21.1 seconds remaining in the half for a 6-1 San Diego lead.

After Sockers goals from Luan Oliveira and Tovar, Jamael Cox scored on a Stars power play, and it was 8-2 Sockers with 4:58 remaining in the third quarter. Bond opened scoring for Tacoma in the fourth to cut San Diego’s lead to five before Chiles completed his hat trick and Escoto added another to reach the 10-3 final.

The Stars are on the road next week for games in Ontario on Thursday and Turlock on Friday. They return home Friday, Feb. 23 to host the Ontario Fury at 7:35 p.m.
