GRAND SLAM BASEBALL CAMPS Grand Slam Camps for baseball and fastpitch will be held at Petrovitsky Park from July 12-15th and at South County Ballfields Park from July 19-22. The camps serve players ages 7-14. The complete camp covers all aspects of the game and is held each day from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Skills Camp is held from 1:30-4 p.m. daily and provides hitting instruction as well. Campers select a defensive position to focus on as well as pitcher, catcher or infield. Since 1993, Grand Slam, a non-profit organization, has had the goal of providing quality instruction in a fun environment while exposing kids to positive role models. The camp staff is comprised of high school coaches and current or former college players. Each camp is $105. Discounts are available for military, siblings, and multiple camp sign-ups. KENT PARKS PRO BASEBALLCAMP

This camp for players ages 8-13 is set for Aug. 16-19 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. each day at Wilson Playfields on Kent’s East Hill. It will include instruction in throwing, hitting and fielding, with game situations and scrimmaging, all under the direction of former pro player and Atlanta Braves scout Steve Goucher. KENT PARKS JUNIOR HOOPSTERS PROGRAM

This instructional program is for boys and girls entering grades 1-2, and is scheduled for Mondays, Sept. 27-Oct. 25, at Kent Commons. Players will have a choice of two sessions: 5:30-6:30 p.m., or 6:30-7:30 p.m. The focus is on fundamentals and fun. The cost is $35, and the registration deadline is Aug. 23. SKYHAWKS SPORTS CAMPS

Camps for boys and girls for baseball (ages 6-12), soccer (ages 6-14), basketball (ages 7-14) and flag football (ages 7-14) will be offered throughout the summer. All camps are one week (Monday through Friday) from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. (except basketball, which is 9 a.m.-4 p.m.). The cost is $135, except for a four-day basketball camp (July 6-9), which is $115. In addition, one MINI HAWK camp for boys and girls ages 4-7 will introduce those campers to soccer, baseball and basketball. It runs July 12-16 from 9 a.m.-noon, and the cost is $98. FISHING

FISHING NYMPHS FOR TROUT

This class will teach anglers how to use nymphs effectively for consistent success in stream trout fishing. It is scheduled for Saturday, July 17, from 7-10 a.m. on the Cedar River. The cost is $45. More information: Kent Parks at (253) 856-5000.

DRY FLIES FOR TROUT

FLY FISHING PUGET SOUND BEACHES

Cutthroat, resident salmon and migrating salmon can be taken on flies from Puget Sound beaches. The class is two sessions: Tuesday, Aug. 10, in the classroom at the Kent Senior Activity Center from 6:30-8:30 p.m., and Saturday, Aug. 14, on the beach. The cost is $69. KENT PARKS YOUTH PROGRAM

CAMPS

These camps are for boys and girls ages 6-12. The first one is a BEGINNING CAMP July 12-16 at Sunset Park in Auburn, and will focus on basic techniques. Skaters ages 6-9 will meet from 9-10:30 a.m. or 12:30-2 p.m.; skaters ages 10-12 will meet from 10:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m. The cost is $40 for Auburn residents and $50 for non-residents. A CONTINUING CAMP will focus on further developing skills at the Brannan Bowl in Auburn’s Brannan Park from July 19-23. Skaters ages 6-9 will meet from 9-10:30 a.m. or 12:30-2 p.m.; skaters ages 10-12 will meet from 10:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m. The cost is $40 for Auburn residents and $50 for non-residents. SOCCER

KENT PARKS YOUTH LEAGUES

These league are for boys and girls who will be entering grade 2-6 in the fall, and who live either within the Kent city limits, or within Kent School District boundaries in unincorporated King County. Games are 11-v-11, with practices on weeknights and games primarily on weekends at local fields from mid September through Nov. 2. Leagues are separated by gender and grade level. The cost is $40 per player, and the registration deadline is Aug. 2.

COED LEAGUES for pre-K and K-1 also will be offered. Pre-K games are 5-v-5, and players must be at least 3 years old by Aug. 31, 2010. The K-1 games are 8-v-8, and players must currently be enrolled in kindergarten or Grade 1, and be at least 5 years old by Aug. 31, 2010. TENNIS

KENT PARKS DAY CAMP

This camp for boys and girls ages 5-17 will be offered throughout the summer on a Monday-through-Thursday basis at Kentridge High School. Campers will be placed in groups according to skill levels. Sessions for ages 5-7 (9-10:30 a.m.) and 8-17 (10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.) are June 28-July 1, July 12-15, July 26-29 and Aug. 8-12. Additional sessions for players age 8-17 (9 a.m.-noon) are July 5-8, July 19-22, and Aug. 2-5. The cost is $55 for ages 5-7 and $98 for ages 8-17. The instructor is USPTA-certified pro Steve Walters. KENT PARKS YOUTH AND ADULT LESSONS

Lessons will be offered for beginners (ages 6-10, and ages 11-14) and beginner-intermediate (ages 15-adult) throughout the summer at Garrison Creek Park on Kent’s East Hill, and at Kent-Meridian High School and taught by USPTA-certified pro Steve Walters. Two lessons per week over the course of four weeks for a total of eight lessons will be offered in each session. Lessons are 60 minutes each, with four-week sessions starting July 6 and Aug. 3, and addition sessions for ages 11-14 and 15-adult starting Sept. 7, and a final session for ages 11-14 starting Oct. 5. Beginner age 6-10 meet from 4:30-5:30 p.m.; beginners age 11-14 meet form 5:30-6:30 p.m., and beginner-intermediates age 15-adult meet from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The cost per four-week session is $60. TRIATHLON

TRIATHLON TRAINING

These swim and run workouts are for athletes age 18 and older. Participants must be able to swim 100 yards without stopping. Wet suits are mandatory to swim in deep water or along the buoy line. Running workouts will take place around Lake Meridian and on the Soos Creek Trail. Sessions are scheduled for Wednesdays, from now through Aug. 25, from 6:15-8 p.m. at Lake Meridian Park.
