BASEBALL

SBA YANKEES

SEA DOGS TRYOUTS

This 13U team will conduct tryouts on Sept. 6 at noon, Sept. 7 at 3 p.m., both at the Daffodil Sports Complex, 15206 Daffodil St. Ct. E. in Sumner, and on Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. at a location to be determined. The team will participate in a Puyallup-based league and will play in approximately seven tournaments. EVERGREEN STATE SPORTS

Early registrations for the 2008-09 TRAINING YEAR CYCLE, which begins. Sept. 1, are being accepted. Team and individual sessions are available. The club is forming new 8- and 10-year-old teams to join its 12, 14, 16 and 18 age squads. Teams have limited spots available. Individual players may train with existing teams.

TEAM FACILITY RENTAL REQUESTS are being accepted. Options include rental only, or team training provided by Coach Embery. Limited time slots are available.

PRIVATE or SMALL GROUP INSTRUCTION in pitching and hitting will be offered beginning Sept. 1. Packages of four lessons, with the first one free (5 for the price of 4) are available. More information on all of the above is available by contacting Coach Embery at (253) 218-9713.

BASEBALL JAZZ

BASKETBALL

RECREATIONAL PLAYERS NEEDED

HALLOWEEN HOOT TOURNAMENT

CYCLING

EMERALD CITY LIGHTS RIDE/5K WALK

This ride, with available loops of 18, 30 or 65 miles, is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 6. It starts and finishes at Game Farm Park in Auburn. Riders can start at 8 a.m., and the course closes at 4 p.m. The cost for the bike ride is $35 prior to Sept. 6, or $45 on the day of the event. For the walk, it’s $15 prior to Sept. 6, and $20 on the day of the event. Proceeds benefit Our Daily Bread Basket. All participants are requested to bring two cans of food for community food banks. MAPLE VALLEY 12U PLAYER NEEDED

FOOTBALL

MAPLE VALLEY ADULT FLAG LEAGUE

This 6-on-6, no-contact league is being offered by Maple Valley Parks. Teams will play one jamboree game and seven regular-season games. If enough teams sign up, two divisions – Recreational and Competitive – will be offered. The jamboree is Sept. 6, the regular season begins Sept. 13, with playoffs for the top four teams in each division beginning Nov. 1. Games are played at Lake Wilderness Park. The team registration fee is $470. OFFICIALS are needed to work 2-6 hours on Saturday, with pay ranging from $18 to $22 per hour. TEAM SPONSORS also are needed. ICE SKATING

LEARN TO SKATE CLASSES

An eight-week series with group and private lessons for boys, girls and adults is being offered at KENT VALLEY ICE CENTRE. Instruction is based on criteria set forth by the Ice Skating Institute. Skating classes are a solid starting point for those interested in figure skating or hockey. The facility is located at 6015 S. 240th St. in Kent. SCUBA

COED AND WOMEN’S CLASSES

PADI scuba classes will be offered through October by GirlDiver Instruction of Auburn. The course includes class, pool and open-water dives conducted in Puget Sound. All standard gear and air fills are included in the class price of $329. The limit is six students per class. Advanced and refresher classes also are available. KENT PARKS YOUTH SOCCER

Leagues for boys and girls in Pre-K through Grade 6 are forming. Leagues are formed by grades, with Pre-K and K/1st playing coed, and all others (Grades 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6) having separate boys and girls leagues. The registration fee is $45.
