Rainier Christian High School is sending its cross country team to the state championship this Saturday in Pasco.
Josh Brockschmidt, a sophomore at Rainier Christian, qualified with a time of 20:21.7 in the 5K (3.1-mile) district race at the American Lake Golf Course in Tacoma last Saturday.
Brockschmidt placed 12 out of 37 boys in the 1B/2B varsity race. Only the top 15 from districts will go on to state.
The state championship will be at the Sun Willows Golf Course.
Brockschmidt will compete against approximately 1,500 runners from more than 225 schools throughout Washington.
“I couldn’t be more proud of Brockschmidt’s success this season and at the district meet. His race was very exciting and being able to compete at the state level is a real honor,” said Rainier Christian coach Heather Buckles.
Team captain Josh Curry added, “Josh is a truly dedicated team member who always works his hardest and pushes the rest of our team to run well.
“Being on a small cross country team provides great opportunities and a close-knit environment that large teams cannot offer.”
