Seattle Thunderbirds goalie Calvin Pickard stopped all 57 shots he saw Friday night to lead the Thunderbirds to a 1-0 victory over the Tri-City Americans at ShoWare Center in Kent.

Pickard (2-2-0-0) stopped 25 shots in the first period, 16 shots in the second period, and 16 shots in the third period.

“My eyes were following the puck pretty well tonight, and when that happens things are going to go well,” Pickard told T-Birds play-by-play voice Thom Beuning in a post game interview.

Seattle (2-4-0-0) opened the scoring on the power play with one second remaining in the second period when defenseman Steve Chaffin, in an attempt to beat the buzzer, fired a shot from the blue line. Right wing Sena Acolatse was in front of Tri-City goalie Drew Owsley and deflected Chaffin’s shot into the right corner of the net.

Tri-City (2-2-0-0) outshot the Thunderbirds 16-13 in the second period to give them a 41-18 advantage in total shots.

The Americans pulled Owsley (2-2-0-0) with one minute remaining in the third period but were unable to convert as Pickard came up with several stellar saves.

Tri-City outshot Seattle 16-2 in the final period, giving them an overall advantage of 57-20.

Seattle travels to Spokane to take on the Chiefs 7 p.m. Oct. 10 at Veterans Memorial Coliseum. They are home Oct. 11, to face the Americans at 5:05 p.m. at ShoWare Center.
